Until his escape, Kombia was serving a five-year prison term for escaping from prison.
A statement issued by the Upper East Regional Crime Officer, Chief Supt Edward Tabiri, described Kombia as a “violent and callous character” who had been serving a 25-year jail term for armed robbery before his first escape in 2009.
“He is on record to have shot at both police and military officers in some of his escapades. He is reported to have attacked and robbed a motor rider of his bike on Saturday, January 16, 2010 and headed for Napanduri immediately after his escape from the Tamale Prison,” it said.
The statement said Kombia had issued threats against the Upper East Regional Police Commander and all those he accused of having a hand in his recapture in Bolgatanga in September of 2009.
It said Kombia was believed to be armed with an AK 47 assault rifle and might be hiding in Napanduri and its environs in the Gambaga District in the Northern Region, Bolgatanga, the towns and villages along the Ghana-Togo border and Bawku.
It asked that any member of the public with information on Kombia should relate it through the following numbers: 024 – 4331936, 020 – 8154085, 021 – 773906/09, 027 – 2061267, 024 – 3137084, 024 – 4285156 and 024 – 4569221
